Unlocking Your Why

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThough understanding one’s purpose is a popular conversation topic, living one’s purpose can be a struggle. People who know their whys can find it challenging to implement what they know.

It’s one thing to know your why; it’s another thing to live it. So, how do you unlock your why? For starters, you must know your why. If you haven’t worked through Live Your Why, I encourage you to get a copy and make discovering your why your priority over the next 30-60 days. Once you know your why, follow these steps to put it into action.

  1. Admit the futility of your current strategy. If what you are doing isn’t producing the results you desire, then continuing to do it won’t help. Doing what you’ve always done will produce results you’ve already experienced.
  2. Deal with the fear of a new journey. Doing something different is scary. Why? Because it’s different. What you’ve always done (even though it didn’t work) is predictable. Sometimes, we choose predictable mediocrity over the exciting possibilities of the future. Don’t let fear rob you of your future.
  3. Beware of the yapping Chihuahuas. These little dogs can be rather annoying. They make a lot of noise, try to intimidate you, and want you to believe they are bigger than they are. However, their threat is parallel to their size. When you stop to defend yourself against doubters and discouragers, you will squander the opportunity to live your why. Move forward by staying focused on the goals. Brush aside the distractions. Don’t let little problems become big problems.

When you unlock the path to living your why, you will unlock the best chapters of your life. Don’t keep reading the preface over and over. Unlock the story and live it. Think about it.

What is keeping you from pursuing your why? What is your plan for dealing with the obstacles?

I did get the book and I did all the exercises. At the end I saw my WHY as what I was living already, not whole-heartedly as I didn’t really believe it was a serious, achievable goal for me. What I found instead that I was allowing what others think to guide me. I have been working consciously on it now and its truly becoming the core of my life.

Thanks for your book, it has cleared up a lot of fog that was keeping me from believing in what I was doing.
